Toyota Auris (2007 - 2013)
Auris 1.6 TR Multimode gearbox
Comfortable, average, reliable, but M/M gearbox lousy till second service and £1200.00 warranty repairs.
Was tempted by '24 hour free test drive' offer. Tried it, liked it but the test car was Manual and I ordered Auto; or as they call it'.Automated manual' their M/M version, discontinued in 2009. I ordered reversing sensors and rubber mats; few days after collection mat had slipped forward until the throttle pedal was covered and held down. Luckily I was only driving in town and with HARD braking and 'banging' the gear lever into neutral I stopped safely. Letter to Toyota and dealer; Toyota 'phoned and offered swap rubber for carpet mat. Dealer didn't reply. I fixed the rubber mats in place. A year later I found out there should have been special locating hooks fitted. Reverse 'beeper' almost inaudible, after two complaints dealer investigated and found 'beeper'just lying in boot floor; moved high up so can now hear it. Numerous complaints to dealer and Toyota about M/M gearbox brushed off as 'characteristic of type of box.' These including stopping on steep hill before change to bottom gear, or from standstill, engine revving so fast when clutch drops in tyres squeal as car leaps off. First dealer went bust, second service at new dealer, was told cars come from factory set wrong. £1200.00 of new parts and adjustment (under warranty) made 95% improvement. Clutch should be set to give slight 'drag'. Coming to end of warranty, not sure of long term reliability.
