Suzuki SX4 S-Cross (2013 - 2021)
1.0 Allgrip
Practical, reliable and almost fun
Bought after much research and test-driving as a 'downgrade' from a Subaru Forester as a more acceptable car for my partner to share driving. The availability of switchable 4WD (as opposed to relying on a Haldex-type automatic clutch) was important for the hilly rural area that we live in, and (with decent tyres - Michelin Crossclimates) it has proved its worth several times in snow and ice. The 1-litre engine is surprisingly adequate provided that you remember to change down early on hills. Fuel consumption much lower than quoted, though we are frequently tackling 15%+ gradients. Comfortable on long journeys and easily adjusts for me (6'2) and my partner (5'4), good luggage space and pulls a half-ton trailer easily. The hard plastic interior that reviewers seem to dislike doesn't rattle and is easy to clean. Overall no problems and nothing to complain about - not the most exciting of cars but a solid practical choice. PS much prefer the styling of this model to the earlier version.
