Suzuki Grand Vitara DDiS 5dr

Expensive to run, crude and unreliable.

Purchased used from a non-franchise car dealer after wife had two near misses in snow on commute to work. Researched reviews on-line but really wanted an X-Trail or RAV 4 but they were much more expensive for similar mileage and year. Car was 3.5 years old and had only done 14K.
Enjoyed high driving position, reasonable boot-space, excellent in snow over two winters but sold after 15 months of ownership and 22K on clock with reliability problems. Engine warning light on - took two trips to main dealer as software at local garage couldn't trace fault, flimsy indicator and windscreen wiper stalks ( wiper stalk switch failed), suspension knocking, trim & seals poorly fitted, new discs and pads at 20,000 miles(!), brakes poor after previous car had discs all round, belt pulley wheels replaced,
Revs highly in 5th gear on motorways and therefore noisy in car. 29mpg around town, 34mpg on a run. Engine very basic, crude and dated compared to diesels today.
