Overall reliability

Our unusual, spritely, frugal workhorse that has really grown on us.

I'll come clean at the start. This is my third Subaru over the years (also 2 Legacys) I have previously owned Jags and Audis for company use but living in the country they have proved pretty useless when the weather gets bad so I have periodically returned to Subaru. I looked at most of the smaller SUVs in the UK market before buying and was nearly won over by the more visually appealing interior finish of Subaru's competition (the XV is more purposeful hard wearing and wipe clean than urban bling) but the mix of performance, handling and economy (on and off road) brought me back to the XV. The fact that 4x4 magazine voted the XV SUV of the year in 2012 and i managed to get the "Everything Taken Care Of" warranty package also helped. Interior seating space is ample for four 6ft blokes but the rear hatch back space is poorer than some of the competition. Also the tailgate has a tall lip to lift things over. My diesel manual is averaging just under 46mpg on fairly mixed driving. The XV has really grown on me and my wife often takes in favour of her hot hatch.
