Skoda Superb (2008 - 2015)
Elegance 2.0 TDI CR 170 5dr Hatchback
A lot of car for considerably less money than other German Engineered cars
My first Skoda was a 2003 plate Octavia 1.9tdi and having owned it for 8 years, it was time for a change, and it didn't take long before I found it the moment I saw it.
The first thing that is obvious is the shear space, the boot is cavernous especially when you lift the hatch and lower the back seat's, its as big as some estate's, this is not at the expense of the leg room in the front seats.
The 170bhp makes this car no slouch although I am positive the remap carried out as part of the emitions recall has dropped some of the power, Skoda maintain it hasn't but it never seamed to have the same kick afterwards, my advice if you have not had the recall remap done yet Don't.
If your short of garage space / drive space then this car won't help, with an overall lenght of 4.8 metres, its longer than most standard parking spaces in supermaket carparks but this has never presented a problem for me.
If there is one thing I think is missing, its the lack of a rear wiper on the hatch, reversing in rain, becasue of its overall lenght tests your skills at judging the rear of the car through the door mirrors, the reverse sensors do help but it would be nice to be able to see out of the back window.
I make a point of changing the engine oil every 6 months to reduce the risk of heavy carbon deposits in the oil causing problems to the electronic turbo actuator, a few pounds on oil could save you hundreds on a new turbo plus it won't do any harm to the overall engine.
I only us Shell V-Power in my car, not becasue the car needs extra power, its just to help keep the engine running clean plus my average 56 mpg fuel consumption around rural roads / in town its higher than the average, on motorways runs travelling at 70/80 mph this figure often pops up to 58/60 mpg.
I love this car, time will eventually force me to change cars but I intend to hold on to it for a good few years yet and when I do I will certainly be looking at another Superb as my first choice replacement.
