Skoda Superb (2008 - 2015)
Elegance 1.8 TSI 4x4 5dr Hatchback
If you need the space this car provides, I would thoroughly recommend it.
Plus points:-
*4 x 4 option
*The hatchback 2 entry modes excellent. Boot only especially good if parking ceiling is low or when wanting to keep bad weather out of the car. Whereas the full hatch opening allows the loading of large items into the large boot area.
*Excellent cruiser. Relaxed and comfortable return journey to Italy with no aches etc.
*Satnav instructions in front of driver excellent
*Heated seats great when returning from a cold walk
*Windscreen parking ticket display clip such a good idea.
*After nearly 3 years from new, absolutely no problems needing garage attention.
Negatives:-
*Could not specify 16 inch rims on new purchase, for comfort reasons, yet Skoda recommended 16 inch steel rims for winter tyres!
*Very large tyre pressure difference between light and heavy load settings, requiring purchase of new electronic tyre inflator
*Tyre noise could be better insulated though this noise may be due to the current trend of councils to repair roads with noisier road surfaces
*No rear wiper on the hatchback
*Too much rear leg space. Would have been better as boot space even though current boot space is generous.
*SatNav will not show “actual” road speed (whereas standalone units do)
*No free lifetime SatNav updates (unlike some standalone units)
*To save a few yards, SatNav will recommend going through towns rather than around them, ignoring how narrow this option can be (especially noticeable in Italy).
*Not a “sharp” driver's car
*2011 2 litre diesel was noisy at 70mph when test driving 2 different Superbs.
