So good day in, day out, that you forgive the niggles

OK, so you get VW group niggles - leaky door windows (fixed under warranty); heater that only does furnace or freeze for the first 15 minutes in cold weather; Bundesbahn front seats; some rather fragile suspension components; ignition coil #1 failure - but it's a robust and genuinely loveable car. The engine is short of power, but exceptionally willing and surprisingly refined: all day on the motorway is no pain at all. Ride is extremely good for this size of car, and handling safe and predictable, if on the soft side. Steering is sharp, and ventilation and visibility very good. Space and practicality score highly, as do purchase, service and running costs - the EU combined 47 mpg is realistically achievable across country, more like 43-44mpg on the motorway. Almost 6 years in, and I still look forward to driving it.
