Renault Scenic (2003 - 2009)
Privilege 1.6 16v VVT People Carrier
OK so far,,,
Was looking for a cheap, spacious car and found this locally, paying £1200. I like the car itself but am concerned re the comments about unreliability, etc. I can see that a few things were flimsy enough to have failed, such as built-in sun-screens, and that, if only better quality materials had been used the cabin would be pretty good. The ideas are nice - the execution below par. Having bought it I find the a/c doesn't work and the air blower on the highest setting (4). The wipers seem to have a mind of their own, though it may be that I haven't mastered them yet, and I'm just waiting for the electro brake to fail 'cos of what others have said. [ Four months into ownership, the driver's wiper linkage has failed due to a failed bearing - a common Scenic problem - and fortunately a cheap-ish fix.]
I like the spaciousness and that it opens without inserting a key. Fuel econ - it's a petrol - appears reasonable on motorways, where I'm getting 46-47 mpg, according to the trip comp.
It's early days, having had it less than a month, but I'm content with it so far, and shall be so if it proves mechanically reliable over the next two years.
