Dynamique 2.0 dCi 150 Hatchback

Roomy, comfortable, non-demanding to drive, gadgets all useful, but some concerns.

I bought this car recently, thinking that the lack of "What's bad" comments in HJ review meant I'd have no reliability worries. On the test drive I didn't have much chance to use 6th gear(it is very tall), and all seemed well. However after collecting it, I discovered a whine when under load in that gear, and a lesser one in 5th. A quick trawl of the net for a specific problem shows that it looks like a general problem on these cars. It's going to the seller for diagnosis later this week, but it looks expensive, and not what you'd expect for a car not yet 4 years old, on 84,000 miles and apparently properly serviced. I also found out that one of the keycards didn't work. Because both had been in the car when I tried it, the duff one apparently functioned. A new battery and an attempted recode at the Renault dealer(£43.80) gained me the knowledge that it didn't work and a replacement would be north of £150, though the recode would now be free. Oh, and it's €175 in France, so don't think you'll get it done more cheaply on your hols. Caveat emptor, indeed. It is nice to drive though, and still looks fresh inside with the half-leather seats.
