Mercedes-Benz CLS (2005 - 2011)
500 4dr Auto Coupe
A very deep money pit
Most unreliable and costly car I have ever owned. Never actually broken down or failed to start, (touch wood), but numerous niggling faults over 10 years and 48,000 miles. Rusty exhaust replaced at 5 years, discs warped due to sitting for a fortnight in frosty weather,(twice), brake sensors failed, all 4 window mechanisms replaced, driver's seat cushion replaced, trim rattles, kickdown problem, rusty brake pipes, etc.. Costs average £1000 per year, not including tyres and petrol. 20-22 mpg petrol costs expected in a 5.5 litre V8 but not repair bills. My previous 14 year old Jaguar XJ40 6 litre which I had for 12 years was cheaper to maintain which speaks volumes. Mercedes UK and main dealer have never been interested in contributing to the huge repair bills. Mercedes are not any better built than any other make. You pay for the name but nothing else. Great car to drive but not to own.
