Honda CR-V (2012 - 2018)
1.6iDTEC SE Plus 2WD 5dr
Not bad but not brilliant either
Needed a proper estate sized SUV on a modest budget and the CRV ticked all the boxes. Has got it's own unique look and interior which I like as many cars these days share badges. Drove an older CRV previously with the 2.2 diesel and the 1.6 is quite different. The gear ratios are shorter so that it cruises on the motorway at higher revs. The main issue though is the engine noise intrusion - needs more sound deadening. The engine isn't a nice sounding diesel either. Sounds clattery and a bit fragile. The clutch also feels a bit weak. The size of the vehicle especially when loaded must be at the absolute limit of what the engine and transmission can manage, so not sure if this will be long term reliable. Have only experienced annoying minor faults which the dealer has rectified under warranty. Averaging high 40s mpg so OK with us. In conclusion it is a good car but long term reliability is questionable. Haven't yet found anything stamped Made In Japan.
