Ford Fusion (2002 - 2012)
Ford Fusion 3
A very practical family car
Over 80,000 trouble-free miles. This car does everything that I want it to do. It's sure-footed, with classic Ford drive-ability, precise steering and suspension on the hard side. Seats are very comfortable and supporting - they are a bit higher than normal which means it's easier to get in and out of this car, a useful feature if you've ever had a bad back. The 1.6 petrol engine feels very powerful and is very responsive to the pedal. Acceleration is potentially fierce from stand-still if you want to drive that way. Fuel economy is reasonable - in excess of 40mpg on average.
Water ingress has regularly occurred at the back of the engine compartment, filling the well at the top of the coil spring anchors.
OEM car battery failed at 82,528 miles. Headlight bulb changes are a doddle for the nearside headlight as no tools are needed but access to the offside headlight needs a 10mm socket to remove a component to enable access.
Sudden clutch failure at low speed was a disconcertingly unwelcome surprise, easily fixed at the garage who charged me half-an-hour's labour. In my opinion this is a design fault that Ford should remedy as it is a well-known problem and mentioned by HonestJohn - not the kind of thing you want to happen when you are doing any sort of speed on a motorway.
