Great evolution

I drive a 2009 1.6 titanium MK7 too and the MK8 takes virtually everything that was good in the previous car and improves it. Not only is the chassis responsive on the twisty roads but it feels incredibly refined on the motorway; I could use this car as a motorway cruiser without hesitation.
The engine feels refined and has a decent punch when required and they have finally realised that at motorway cruising speed we want an engine at 1500rpm not 3000rpm like the last model, that sixth gear is a welcome addition. Fuel economy is 48mpg with majority motorway driving however this is the first 1000 miles so that may settle. The only thing that you have to adjust to is the need for higher revs when setting off. Until the turbo kicks in you can tell it is a 1lt but give it revs and while actually moving it feels like a much bigger beast.
The interior is much improved over the previous model although I would agree with the reviews about some of the scratchy plastic i.e. door pull.
There are some faults I have found however. Water collects on the boot lid and drips down your neck when you open the boot and it has been wet, there is a spot next to your right knee in the passenger seat that gets very hot and one day the touch screen did not turn on. This has since rectified itself and gone 2 weeks working fine so we will see.
Apart from that I would highly recommend this car and would buy on without hesitation.
