Fiat 500 (2008 on)
1.3 multijet diesel (75hp) 'sport'
better than expected!
purchased by my father as late 20th birthday present, my fiat500 was bought to replace my first car (peugeot 205 diesel) at a cost of nearly £10,000.
owned from new between april 2008 and april 2011, my factory-fresh fiat500 was a 08-reg 1.3 diesel in 'sport' trim. only options selected were the chrome pack (chrome trimmings and wing mirror casings), larger alloy wheels and metallic black paintwork (because i didnot like the basic solid white like most other 500s on the road). he was named clarence......
GOOD POINTS
1) in the 3 years i owned it i drove 146,000 miles - almost all motorway mileage - without mechanical problems. which is a good thing, because i did a lot of driving between uk and my home country of lithuania...and if i was to break down on one of these journeys.....ugh. please, let's just not consider this as possibility. it would probably jinx me to do this.
2) looks WONDERFUL.......always put smile on my face when looking about it, as well as people approaching me to compliment me on my car!!!!
3) i managed to find decent, comfortable driving position for my (then) 6'2 body! saying that, i don't think my legs would fit in quite so well now im a little taller at 6'4 (cursed 42inch inside leg measurements)....
BAD POINTS
1) paint - very soft! prone to stone chips! r****** water-based paint application....by the looks of it the body would have been lucky to have seen even 2 applications. lots of patches on the front bumper, front wings an bonnet that exposed white undercoat paint that had to regularly be filled in/touched up.
2) interior squeaks - something to do with dashboard im thinking. i could never find where that b***** noise was coming from. i always drive with radio/music player system off (i prefer hearing car engine noise, even if it is diesel engine), so it was all the more noticeable. saying that, the blue+me thing did work very nicely when it was required.
3) i regret picking the chrome pack..... made it look a bit cheap. also it was near impossible to make it look shiny + new looking after dirt from rain, etc, goes on it.
overall it is most favourite car i have owned, though i would not buy another, purely for the reason that i am not one for buying like-for-like replacements.... i enjoy change/ something different with every car i get.
thank you for reading.
