Citroen C4 (2004 - 2010)
110 1.6 HDI VTR+ Coupe
Good looking economical but flawed
We loved this car new.
The Good:
Nice materials in the cabin, I like the display and the fixed steering wheel centre. The economy figures are superb - cruise control on long runs garner 70 mpg, drive it for fun rather than economy and it goes well too. Cracking style and shape - it looks like a DS.
The Bad:
The cost of the 215/50/R17 Y rated tyres on a car that can do 120 mph down hill with the wind behind it, are astronomical.
Rearward visibility isn't great - but the mirrors are fine instead.
As soon as it was out of warranty the speed limiter - then the cruise control failed, the rear tailgate struts failed, it was recalled for the tail gate wiring loom and the dealer left us with a shed load of rattles from the rear tailgate following the work, the rear spolier regularly works lose and adds to the rattles.
The rear brake calliper rusted and needed replacement and the paint started peeling off the bonnet firstly on the inside above the hot turbo but more latterly on the outside too (we had a similar problem with a Grand Picasso - why do Citroen use aluminium if they can't get paint to stick to it- its not covered by the paint/corrosion warranty either as its not a steel panel!), the glove box handle broke - like everybody else's - search Google for an easy fix.
Drivers side climate control has failed and it is stuck on hot. We had two broken springs in a week as well.
All in all over seven years a disappointment - after five years I loved it now I can't wait to see the back of it.
