Hyundai i10 - Paint discolouration on new car - andy from embsay

My daughter has a 72 reg i10 in their standard “Mangrove Green” colour. It’s about 7 months old and the paint around the exhaust is a discoloured yellow. I took it into a dealer and they checked the emissions which were normal and they said the damage/discolouration is due to “external factors” (they mentioned “the weather”!). This is clearly ludicrous, given the staining is only in the area above the exhaust and nowhere else.

Assuming it’s not emissions, then one can only assume it’s an issue with the paint (we paid extra for “paint protection”) - but how can one get that checked independently, assuming Hyundai are denying responsibility?

It's just exhaust residue, it'll come off with a wash and polish.

Incidentally "paint protection" is a waste of money, most valeters at dealerships are not given the time or equipment to properly prepare the paint, it needs thoroughly decontaminating before the "protection " is applied.

Have tried washing it thoroughly several times, Paul - doesn’t seem to move it. I’d also have assumed the dealership would have tried to wash it off too.

I’m not surprised the paint protection is a waste, and I’ve never bothered before - hopefully it might give us a bit of leverage with Hyundai!

Then try something non-aqueous, like meths (first) or WD-40 or white spirit. If it is exhaust residue one of those should remove it. If not, the paint may well be discoloured in some way.

Try some polish ( not wax) something like super resin polish is fairly gentle, has it always been discoloured?

Certainly wasn’t when it was new (about Feb), and my daghter doesn’t live at home so I only spotted it recently.
