VW Polo 1.2 Moda - VW Don't care - Northman

Hi. My five year old 1.2 VW polo, 50K approx fully serviced by VW has suffered a serious problem resulting in the timing position moving. I have been told a new engine is required and no guarantee other parts are not damaged. VW is not interested as car is out of warranty even though they have looked after the car since i purchased it new. Unbelievably this damaged happened when the car was stationary/at start up. How can I take this forward as VW are blocking and saying I need to speak with the retailer. Thanks.

Is this a timing chain or belt engine ?

If timing chain, then you should be in a very good position for 'goodwill' from VW GB, as they have recognised a lot of problems due to quality issues.

If belt, then have you had it changed at all as part of your servicing ? It should have been done at 4 years old, and would have cost £250-350 on top of the usual servicing costs.
