I bought a car with a badly chipped windscreen - can I reject it?

I just went to the local Nissan dealer to trade in my Nissan, and purchased a Vauxhall. I saw the Vauxhall on Sunday and everything looked ok. I went into the office to finalise the paperwork today and there was no Vauxhall, apparently it was being cleaned. Finally I got the keys, the man showed me a few things and then I left the garage. I noticed a mark on the window as I was driving down the road, hit the windscreen wipers and realised there were three chips on the window. I was not happy.

I took the car back to the garage. The man said to me i could get them sorted out with a company via my insurance. I got three months' warranty and said he should get it sorted. He then said there was nothing to say I hadn't done the chips myself when I left the garage. I was very annoyed and said I wanted to cancel the purchase agreement and have my Nissan back. He said I couldn't, because it belonged to the garage now. After some arguing he said I should bring the car back to garage next week and they would get the chips repaired. I said that wasn't good enough. He then wanted me to bring the car back later today and get the windscreen repaired. I said I shouldn't have to be inconvenienced like that. He then agreed he would drive to my house later and get the car, get it fixed and bring it back.

He took the logbook for my traded-in car from my mum. We have not been given the documents for this Vauxhall, so i have nothing to say I currently own this car. I'm unhappy with the service and attitude. Is there any way of cancelling the deal and getting my Nissan back?

If there are chips in the windscreen and they fix them then the deal will stand. A trivial fault such as this will not be considered reasonable grounds to reject the car. They are required to supply the DVLA with documents to permit the transfer and the DVLA should come back to you saying they have done so within 29 days. If the chips are not dealt with and/or the paperwork has not been received within a month please come back to me.
