Why did my insurance company increase my premium when I reached 72 years of age?
I recently received a renewal insurance premium quote of £375.41. This is 33 per cent increase on last years price of £283.42, despite having made no claims. The quote also included legal protection for £25 (the same price as last year) bringing the total to £400.41. I wrote to the CEO stating my concern regarding this massive increase and received a letter back which, reading between the carefully worded document, said that the increase was because of my age, which is 72, without actually saying so.
They have basically said that they no longer want to do business me because of my age so screwed the price. On checking with other companies I was surprised to find very reasonable quotes and have now taken out a policy with a competitor for £282, which as you will see is less that last year.

Forget their legal protection and buy that separately from www.autolaw.co.uk. You get proper legal cover for the same price. Many other readers have complained of revised insurance rates structures for older drivers with some insurance companies. They seem to be losing a lot of business as a result. Try SAGA, Liverpool Victoria and NFU Mutual.
