Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 3 x gearboxes in 1 month 14 Feb 2010 (Forum)
in as many weeks. Service manager said he hopes this new one will be OK as the warranty on the gearbox will expire when the car is 3 years old i.e. 1st March. Surely after a catalogue of disasters Ford cannot simply disown the warranty work! or is the service manager correct? What would you do? -
Smallish automatic for about £6k 21 Nov 2009 (Forum)
My daughter is looking for a smallish (for parking) "traditional" automatic to buy for about £6k. She does quite a lot of long distance motorway drives, and currently has a 9 year old Toyota Yaris, which has been excellent. We had a test drive with a 3 year old Mitsubishi Colt diesel automatic -

Less than 4 yr old, 53,000 mile on the clock, recently got error message "insufficient coolant". VW garage (which has always maintained it) advised oil cooler and camshaft needs replacing, £2,500 bill! Considering age & miles, does this seem strange to anyone else? I know very little about cars -

Nissan Almera - Terrible headlights 19 Oct 2006 (Forum)
With the nights drawing in, I've been driving with my headlights quite a bit lately. And I have to say, compared to my old Sunny and my girlfriend's Clio, the Almera's headlights are absolutely awful. I have them pointed as high as possible, yet they only light a small distance in front of me -
A4 TDi 130PD 17 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Hi The auld petrol Vectra is becomming tired and I am seriously considering replacing it with an A4 TDi 130. I have always prefered oil burners, but have never owned any of these new fangled PD engined cars. I usually buy at 2-3 years old and keep for another 5 years moving on when I get a good -
Windscreen Wipers 8 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Amazingly (or stupidly) I've never replaced the wipers on my car. That's been because they've been fine up until recently when the rubber started to peel away but they still worked. Anyway - nipped into Ford before and bought a pair and just replaced them now. Swish aren't they? Wear indicators -

MOT- new rules, or just applying the old 14 May 2004 (Forum)
For years now I have grown accustomed to treating the MOT as a kind of free check-up. If the car fails the first attempt, I go and fix it and then get the retest free. The examiner glances at the offending item, now replaced or whatever, and then writes out the pass certificate. Suddenly last week -
Corolla 1.6 SR 6-Speed 9 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Thinking of trading in my rather well-used (but reliable, apart from the gearbox whine ?bearing?) Corolla old-shape 1.4 (no air-con or other goodies) for a 1.6 old-shape at much lower mileage - mainly because I know the Corolla now, so know what to look for, and the SR sorts out all the things -
