to help anyone else, heres how it went
Firstly I didnt take anything off aside of the 02 sensor unclipping from its bracket and drivers front wheel
Starter held on by 2 bolts. Bottom bolt easily visible just unscrew
Top bolt you cant see at all. Put hand down beneath hose onto top of starter motor where it joins gearbox at the top of the gearbox. You will feel 2 bolt heads and the one you need to undo is the lower of the two (they are about 25mm apart) use 13mm socket and extension bar that fits between back of alternator and the bolt head. Getting socket onto upper bolt head is a two man job one person needs to guide the socket onto the bolt form the top and the other lies beneath the car and undoes the bolt with the ratchet and bar.
Undo all cable connections before removal. car is on 2 axle stands at front.
