Im a 21 yr old lad and i want a car with good looks good power and something a bit fun but have to remember insurance, i'm thinkin about getting a 330d coupe about 3 yrs old prob 45k or so on the clock. The insurance even with my age isnt to bad on this and get a decent return on mpg which i probably need. Just wondering if anyone had any other ideas, I have about 14k to spend on it. I do around 20k miles plus a year and due to where i work spend about 1-2 hrs a day sat in very slow traffic.
Cheers

You won't get a much better engine/chassis combo for the price. Make sure it has a proper history and get a third party warranty put on it. They are not expensive cars to run, but don't skimp on bits especially tyres. Look for a BMW Specialist to service outside the main dealer network. RWD is an acquired taste. The E46 Coupe is an exceptionally pretty car by the way.
Some people can't see beyond the badge and hate the brand an its image without really knowing the cars.
RWD is not for a fierce, hamfisted driver, and definitely a stay at home in the snow !

With your daily traffic woes, go for an auto, besides which good auto diesels are IMO one of the best kept car secrets out there, comfortable seamless surge of power, irresistable.
Agree with above, a lovely car powerful, pretty, compact..ish, and reasonable on fuel.
Maintain it well and you will have a gem of a car for a long time.

Ed, go with your gut instinct and enjoy it whatever the guardian readers might say about a big engined BMW. I curse BMW drivers but mainly because I can't afford one and it's a sort of knee-jerk reaction. (See Pugugly's comment)
I've driven a 330d as a mate is in the BMW trade and this beats the Z4 (which I loved) and the 750 which I pestered him to drive and which scared me with all its 'stuff'. I can't compare it with other similar cars in the bracket but I do remember driving that car (for all of 4 miles) with a big smile on my face.
If I wasn't such a neurotic about being hated by people like myself for no other reason than the brand of car I was driving, I'd buy one.
(Incidentally, no-one actually "hates" Focus drivers...do they...)

Can't figure out how to type in a Robert De Niro accent so you'll just have to imagine it.....
"You talkin' to me? Are ya?"
