  • Land Rover Discovery 3 - Used car buying scam? 10 Mar 2013 (Forum)
This is a similar thread to one posted on 25 Jul by Kay Williams. It is almost certainly a scam as the wording on the email I received is identical: Good evening Alex, Thanks for the response. The price of the vehicle is fine and i am happy to purchase it so would want the advert removed online.
  • Vauxhall Corsa - Courtesy car scratches scam 24 Oct 2010 (Forum)
I kicked myself because I hadn't made my own check prior to walking in, however the eagerness with which they handled this, the practised way that they told me it had happened while the car was "in my care" and the way that they were able to give me a quote off an almost identical recent occurrence left me feeling I may have been scammed.  I guess they get  a few damaged courtesy cars back all the time and the  scenario of one of their staff nipping outside to scratch the car while I'm in the office doing the paperwork seems almost ridiculously paranoid on my part, but I have a real nagging doubt about this incident.
  • Ford Fiesta - Uninsured losses scam? Request for advice 7 Feb 2016 (Forum)
I am 65 and neither my wife or myself in all our years of motoring have ever received a solicitor's letter in connection with an insurance matter, let alone a trivial scuff mark. Questions: Is this normal practice these days or is it some kind of scam to claim against the uninsured losses part of the policy? Should we get our own solicitor to respond to the letter? I would like to pick up the phone and give the solicitor an earful, but this might not be productive...
  • Skoda Fabia (2001) - Car Repair Following Accident - Being Scammed? 26 Jan 2011 (Forum)
They now say that I owe them the money for a car which I cannot even drive. I feel like I am being scammed here. Please advise on where I stand legally. I also allege that the engine was normal when they took the car (backed up by the fact that they mentioned no engine problem in their initial diagnosis) and believe that the engine was damaged while the car was in their care.
  • Is this an insurance scam 27 Jun 2008 (Forum)
They used my name but a different address and obviously not my car number plate. Have others experienced this? I can only assume it is a scam to get cover on a car for a few days/weeks to avoid the new cameras for automatically checking whether a car has insurance? The insurer (Zurich), my bank (Cahoot) and the police (Thames Valley) haven't really been very helpful in the matter.

  • Advertising in The Backroom 8 Jul 2004 (Forum)
I did wonder!! especially after his second post. Now that there is a growth industry in out-scamming the Nigerian scammers. It occured to me that a few hundred earnest enquiries, that all produced no custom, might turn the tables. Not that HJ could possibly condone such activities!!
  • Is this a scam,If so why is it being allowed? 23 Aug 2019 (Forum)
Again, I am sure this will not be the case, as the car is in perfect order. Thank you, Stuart My questions Doesnt this look like an obvious scam or am I mistaken. He then sends me an email backed by the said used cars website verifying the cars details ! Any thoughts on this welcome.
  • Cheap Newish Cars on Autotrader 11 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Prices were extraordinarily low. A 2011 Ford Kuga for £6000. Another for a Jaguar, same year £8000. Possible scam? Contacted AT, ads not removed.I contacted the Kuga owner and this is the email sent to me. Scam or no scam- does Yahoo operate such a copper bottomed scheme that I would not lose money on? Too good to be true?
  • Citroen Xsara Picasso (2000 - 2010) - Insurance Scam? 17 Dec 2007 (Forum)
t provide details of the claimant because of the Data Protection Act and neither did the claimant report it to the police. Several questions spring to mind: 1. Is this a well known scam - have a crash, choose a reg number at random, produce a so called independent witness and hey presto you have your car repaired. 2. Can they get details of your insurance company just by the reg number.
  • Insurance scam, be warned. 26 Nov 2005 (Forum)
There was a report on Radio 5 Live yesterday about a scam in the Manchester area, it is apparently getting quite common. They interviewed a driver who had been following another car onto a roundabout with no other traffic in sight, the other car suddenly braked hard and the driver lightly bumped the back of it.
