  Car has been left for 3 days. Was unexpectedly totally flat today, no power at all. I have not experienced any recent problems. Battery is 5 years old, reads only 3V on a multimeter. Is this battery worth trickle charging or jump starting?

  Obviously, this post is related to my earlier one. I borrowed my neighbours Optimate battery charger but am struggling to get it attached directly onto the battery terminals. If I attach it to the terminal connectors will it still charge ok? Did this last night and it’s still charging this morning.

  Google says batteries last up to 5 years but sometimes only 2-3 years. I have never replaced the battery in my three (well-serviced Jap) cars (9 years, 9 years and 8 years) , have I been lucky or is Google full of doom and gloom ?
