  • Gearbox oil top up,AX/Saxo. 15 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Can anyone tell me where the top up plug is on a Saxo/AX 1.1 gearbox,as mine needs a drink after the halfshaft came adrift today, while changing a strut. I have an idea, but want confirmation, and also need to know what size the plug head may be,if it's the one I'm thinking it is. Cheers peeps.
  • Fiesta Oil Dipstick problem 30 Jan 2005 (Forum)
I have just finished changing a head gasket on a 1996 Ford Fiesta 1.3 Endura E engine. Everything went ok until I tried to put the dipstick back in it's tube, It just will not go. It goes about 3/4 the way down then it feels something is blocking it. Am I missing something or any advise much
  • ATF and Mayonnaise 13 Feb 2003 (Forum)
HJ refers to checking ATF level on his section on checking a used car out. ATF? Also he refers to mayonnaise under the oil filler cap. Now I'm pretty sure I could spot this but if I was a dodgy dealer, I'd probably change the oil when I was putting on the forecourt, so is there any other way
  • Skoda Roomster - Noisy Skoda Roomster tappets 17 Sep 2012 (Forum)
I have a 2008 1.4 petrol roomster. The tappets make a very loud noise on tickover and when changing gear. They are quiter at speed. Any suggestions as to what it can be? I have had the oil changed without any benefit.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 99 1.8 Confusion over acceptable oil grade to use? 13 Mar 2009 (Forum)
. Does Ford mean that e.g. 10w40 can be used for a complete oil change (as it says "top-up" it doesn't say by what amount e.g. 1 litre or more) or only for topping up. Even more confusing, the Hayne's manual for this model says that 5w30, 10w40 or 5w40 can be used but higher viscosities e.g. 15w40 could

  • Oil loss 21 Nov 2001 (Forum)
steam - and even then only if the eninge is revved hard. The car until just very recently has used hardly any oil, and to prove a point i have added half a litre in 5000 miles. I changed the oil and replaced it with fully synthetic, to which i added a little mineral oil as it seemed to leak
  • VW - any - Oilchanging and mixing 11 Jun 2011 (Forum)
My Mk6 Golf is set to longlife services, but being a bit 'old school' i just cannot agree with 18,000 miles or well over a year between oli changes. So at about 9-10 k miles from a service, out comes the trusty Pela extractor, and the oil is swapped. Thing is the oil going
  • Nissan Primera II (1996 - 1999) - 1997 1.6 How to fill gearbox oil???? 14 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Hi, i've just had a nightmare of a day trying to change a cv gator on my primera. I've done many gators on previous cars but have NEVER had one like this. It just didnt want to come off. Finally after taking out the drive shaftt and clamping it I finally got off the cir-clip. But now I have an even
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 1.9d - How much for an exchange engine ? 4 Jun 2008 (Forum)
The wife's 306 1.9d is poorly, spewing oil and water out of the expansion bottle. My first thoughts were that the head and or gasket was pooped, or even the block cracked, but we had the oil cooler changed and it was fine for a week or so but is now back to spewing oil and water everywhere

and fill the washer bottle, which is something I've always been charged for whether it needs it or not)and if I spot something amiss that involves more than basic maintenance I take it to the garage. For the last year I've been taking it to National Tyres for regular six monthly oil/filter changes
  • Honda CR-V II (2002 - 2006) - 05 2.2 rear diff noises when on full lock 10 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Has anyone had experience of this, and if so does changing the oil work as a permanent fix. To be honest we've had so many problems with this car, bought new in 2005 (2.2 deisel executive 41K now) that I'm tempted to get rid and go back to BMW, although financially it's not a good time for us
  • 306 HDi - sooty exhaust 20 Jan 2006 (Forum)
My usually reliable indie declares himself outwitted by a combustion imbalance on my car: 99T showing 37K miles, with oil/filter changes every 6K, coolant changes, etc. For the last 1000 miles a grey cloud had been visible in the r/v mirror when accelerating, and gobs of soot are sometimes ejected
  • lean and pinking toyota 10 May 2003 (Forum)
When the car reaches normal operating temperature it begins to run lean and pinks very loudly. The temperature does not rise but the pinking gets worse, so bad that the car will not tick over and can even cut out between gear changes if I am a little slow changing up or down. While the car
  • Oil Additives - Any good? 12 Jun 2001 (Forum)
My wife & I each run Saxo deisels on our driving school. We normally change cars every two years when they've done about 80,000 miles. Because of the milage we take a fair hit in depreciation, but it will be worse this time with the drop in new car prices effecting the second hand market
  • 16 Mar 2019 (Forum)
There are places that will carry out a lower cost oil change. Under £50 at National Tyres on a 2015 Leon 1.4 ACT. Although I've never heard of Lukoil. Kwik fit at £55.
