  • Minus 12°C possible this weekend 9 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Weather reporters are reporting that night temperatures this weekend could get very cold - quote "some parts of the Midlands could get as low as -12°C" That's cold enough to freeze the coolant in your block and radiator if your antifreeze is a bit weak. You have been warned.

  • Toyota Main dealer service 5 Jan 2005 (Forum)
I've just had my Yaris serviced at a Toyota garage. I found that they over filled it with oil, did not top up engine coolant, over filled washer reservoir and over inflated the tyres. Also the oil that they used (Shell Helix Plus 10w40.) is not the viscosity recommended in the handbook. Good
  • Cooling system pressure 2 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Can the experts out there (=in here) say whether there is anything for or against venting the cooling system 10 mins after stopping a hot engine, to purge most of the 'air' above the coolant? Seems to me that the running pressure would then be slightly lower, presumably a good thing? There would
  • Ford Focus Ecoboost 2012 - Degas Hose recall 28 Jan 2016 (Forum)
Hi All, I hope you can help me.  I broke down on the motorway with an overheated car recently, which turned out to be the degas hose, having split in half and poured out all the coolant.  I found out the next day it was a recalled part, for which we have never recieved a letter
  • Audi A4 Avant - 2007 Audi A4 2.0L TDI Water Leaking From Engine? 11 May 2012 (Forum)
I have a water leak from my audi 2L tdi 170 estate. 78000miles The garage I am using has bypassed the egr valve and then the oil cooler but the coolant keeps dissapearing.  It was almost due a timing belt so I thought that we would get it done and check the water pump.  I

  • VW Passat 1.9TDI 100 (PD) - MPG seems too low? 28 Jan 2012 (Forum)
).  At first I was getting mid to low 30's mpg.  The engine wasn't running at normal temp (true reading from the cliamtic control panel showed the temp wasn't going above mid 60's).  I've since replaced the coolant temp sender/thermostat and coolant (50/50mix) and the car now runs at the normal

  • Ford Focus TDdi - Engine cooling fan 19 Jul 2010 (Forum)
Hi all I have an 02reg Focus 1.8TDdi diesel with 160k on the clock, which so far has given me 10k of trouble free motoring since I bought it just before last Christmas. However, I have recently noticed that the coolant fan seems to come on every time I accellerate to above 50mph
  • Rover 214 - excessive exhaust emissions 26 May 2010 (Forum)
a week we noticed white smoke - thought gonna be the head gasket - bought the kit and fit everything as it should be just in case it should blow.  Spark plugs were dry and clean.  The gasket had slight evidence of a possible blow but no mixing of oil and water/coolant evident - the head
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 99 1.6 cooling fan too keen 29 Jan 2010 (Forum)
the coolant. There seemed to be an airlock as the temp gauge went high and erratic, also the coolant level dropped. Topped up and it hasn't dropped since. But soon after that the a/c would not switch off. New switch fixed that but temp gauge was still erratic. New temp sensor in the head failed to give

lights. And I think the smell comes from acceleration. Although after a long journey along country roads and some pretty big hills the smell was particularly bad. I've had a look under the bonnet and noticed what looks like coolant residue (flaky pink stuff) on the right hand side of the engine. I've
  • FIAT Grande Punto (2006 - 2009) - 2007 1.9 Poor Fuel Economy After Crash 28 Nov 2008 (Forum)
etc. Any how I have now noticed that my average fuel consumption has gone from being about 42mpg down to 35mpg after the crash. The only thing I can think is that when the accident happened all the coolant from the engine leaked out of the pipe that connects to the intercooler. I have noticed
  • 2000 w plate Pug 1.9D oil/water leak 2 Mar 2007 (Forum)
pug contacts and they confirmed this as a possibility. Get on with the job then sir and £80 later job done. It still appears to be leaking coolant, which is now grey rather than black although i would expect this as although the system was well flushed out the radiator has not been changed. My
  • focus hell 1 May 2003 (Forum)
coolant water in and around the spark plugs and also inside the engine - fifteen minutes of blowing steam was testament to this! The garage repaired the car and clamed the fault was due to a "temperature reader/sender" fault which was then replaced.I enquired whether it might instead have been a cylinder

Has anyone used this water/petrol/coolant additive in the past. I have and believe it has had a positive effect. Anyone else care to comment? I was thinking of buying some more but it's quite expensive. Can anyone suggest where I might find some reliable test-data? before I shell out again

  • Hotter heater radiator additive 28 Oct 2006 (Forum)
I saw an advert in a motor mag about a product that claimed to help the internal heater heat 50% faster. The product is called something like Hotter Heater or similar, just add to the radiator coolant and away it goes. Has anyone used this product and if so how effective is it and is it safe

Why ask someone (me) to go and look at a car with you, if you ignore what I say? £650 for a 3 door N reg Fiesta 1.25 with 98,000 on the clock, but with no oil in the sump or road tax and a rapidly decaying battery. Think it had the wrong coolant in it too. Still, I got twenty quid out
