  Uninhibited response - so the dealer wanted 900 quid to flush the coolant system and if that 'didnt work' say the engine was a write off when in fact, it was a stuck thermostat and impellor blades disintegrating! Remind me never to buy a VW.

  According to Haynes, only Volkswagon G11 Blue coolant should be used on these engines. Is this still necessary or can any proporietry antifreeze be used?

  it be tested?   it should be noted that the expansion tank has split letting the coolant out. i am not sure if this related, but the overheating probably caused the expansion tank to split with the over-hot coolant. thanks for any thoughts
