To sort out a debate we had in the office today. Are modern fuels and oils beneficial for old cars? If a common pushrod engine from the mid 60?s (Ford Zephyr for example) were to be completely rebuilt as original and then run using synthetic oil and modern fuel (with lead replacement additives -

Peugeot 405 Diesel (1988 - 1996) - 95 1.9 Testing stop solenoid on a TD 13 Jun 2009 (Forum)
I suspect that the replacement stop solenoid I recently fitted is faulty. The car has not started since it was fitted. No fuel reaches the injectors, and I know fuel is reaching the injector pump (Bosch). I have removed the solenoid, and gripped the body in the jaws of a connected -ve jump lead -

What does a failing cambelt tensioner sound like? 7 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Leading on from a previous thread in which Mapmaker did advise that he was able to tell that his cambelt was about to give up, I'd just like to know what this sound is exactly? Specifically on GM engines if there is a difference I've been thinking that it may take the form of a rattle at high revs -

Missing engine 10 May 2008 (Forum)
What's happened to Ford's 1.6 Duratec Ti-Vct engine? It's missing from the current Focus range, but the last brochure described it as 'fresh and exciting' and 'leading the engine line up'. Not such an anoraky question as it sounds, because the extra 15/20 bhp over the standard 1.6 made a big -

Stupid designs maintenance wise 2 Nov 2006 (Forum)
The failure of a starter motor on a friends A class has inspired (?) this question. To have this fixed the engine must be dropped to enable access thus leading to a large bill. I'm sure I read somewhere that to change half the 'plugs on a certain model of Japanese sports car requires the engine -
Police filming bikers or not... 5 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Interesting lead article in this weeks MCN. Police apparently now filming bikers at bike meets looking to identify those bikers who speed past forward facing cameras. In an interesting twist one biker approached two guys who stated they were from South Wales police and produced police ID. Upon
