A Honda unit has a distributor on the end of the cam that contains the coil, the amplifier and 3 inductive pick-ups. They are well known for failing - try a breakers for an identical unit.
|
we have taken the dizzy off from the coil and checked the terminals for power , when the key is turned there is no power going to the coil, any ideas??????
|
The dizzy has a white round connector attached to it which houses 2 wires,1 blue,1 black. At least 1 wire should be live with ignition on.If not check fuses both in interior cabin fuse box and also one under bonnet by battery.hth

The Honda engines are easy to identify - they're "back to front". By which I mean the cambelt on the right (as you stand in front of the car) and the transmission on the left.
It will also have "PGM-FI" on the top of the inlet manifold.
Cheers

ive checked all the fuses i can find and they are fine , would it be a relay of some sort if so where and what colour thanks.
|
IIRC [long time ago] they can sometimes have a relay in the centre console next to the inertia switch.
There's no relay, or fuse, in the feed to the distributor - should be the black and yellow.
Is it confirmed that this is the Honda D16 engine?

A car of that age may have a worn out ignition switch.
|
Honda engines of this type/era are notorious for igniter module failures - see

for links to more detailed information, and a potential replacement supplier.

I have the same problem. Can anyone help? The relay for the fuel pump seems to be clicking OK, and I'm sure there is fuel as it smells of petrol. There is no spark. Have checked the voltage at the distibutor. The two pin connector has 12v at the black wire when ignition is switched on.
When the cap is off there is 12v to both connections on the top right of the coil. When the other connector is separated there is no voltage to any of the connectors until the ignition is switched on when the three central pins in a line (next to the single pin) show 0.4 volts. Can I do any more checks, or do I just take it as read that the whole module is US?
