Repairing cars in this recession. 5 Oct 2008 (Forum)
we got lazy or is that so many parts are no longer 'user serviceable' like washing machines, can we even obtain those parts now? Over the years i've done loads of cheap fixes, re rubber complete braking systems instead of replacing master cyls and calipers, having clutch plates relined instead -
Overtakers, what reaction? 6 Sep 2008 (Forum)
to the left as well, we would all be safer, no one needs to brake or take any evasive manoeuvres, just move 3 ft to the left. I truly believe that some drivers would sooner have a head on smash with a late passer than just ease over a bit to the left and make everyone's day safer. I also by the way -
What would you have done differently? 11 May 2008 (Forum)
. For myself, i could have braked hard, but two things in mind, if he had carried on course, he would have been fully in my lane before i could have dropped back enough, probably pushing me and whoever else onto the central reserve, apart from that i didn't want a full bore panic stop with a truck -
`Luxury bloat` small cars, to efficiency priority? 2 May 2008 (Forum)
think? 2) Drag, It almost seems like some car makers don`t bother too much. All those little `air brakes` around fake front grills and recessed fog lamp housings and too tall...too big bodies. 3) Engine efficiency, despite the forthcoming twin cylinder petrol engines, surely the extra thermal -
ANPR cameras - they work y'know ! 25 Oct 2007 (Forum)
slows down, no brake lights so I look to pull out thinking he might be looking for something on the hard shoulder. Suddenly I notice there is a car along side me - what the ! Then I notice a car right behind me and suddenly I'm surrounded by blue flashing lights from 4 traffic cars -
Servicing. Why bother? 30 Jul 2007 (Forum)
for around £20 - £30, air filter once a year, brakes obviously need to be checked but these can be checked every 6 months or so, depending on mileage done each month, when the oil filter is done. I'm not saying that this 'schedule' must be followed but taking your car to a main dealer for servicing seems -
Mazda 6, what to watch out for? 13 Jan 2007 (Forum)
on a diesel at 34 months old. One reader had ... brake discs re-skimmed (23,000 miles: again seems to be a common problem). ... On the 136PS 5-speed diesel, labouring of the engine in 5th (and towing) can lead to a short 5th gear life as the selector pins wear. Not a problem on later 6-speed box. " I don't -
Party Transport Policies 22 Apr 2005 (Forum)
. They will also be wrapped in bubble wrap to make them safer. All trains will be fitted with an automatic braking system that will function as soon as it sees red; this will include people who have been completely enraged by having to stand waiting on a platform for 3 hours. Rather than to attempt re-opening -
I must I MUST get there before the bus 3 Aug 2003 (Forum)
think that I give two hoots whether or not my bus gets scratched or dented? 'Course I don't. So why do they put themselves in the position where they could so easily get hit by my bus? One of these days I just won't brake...! Anyway, as I said at the start, this was not intended to be a rant, just -
Prosecution? 26 Jan 2003 (Forum)
that wouldn't account for landing on top of another car! My own suspicion is that she maybe panicked when she saw the oncoming car coming out of the sun and hit the throttle instead of the brake. Of course, there is the off chance that a steering link or suchlike failed, but this is probably unlikely because -
1966 and all that 4 Jun 2002 (Forum)
last year for the first time when the pan gasket sprang a leak and the rear axle oil has never been changed (the Ford manual states this is unnecessary). The car has never had any kind of mechanical attention other than normal servicing beyond one new alternator, brakes, hoses and belts from time -
Peugeot 308 - Ball joint anti-roll bar bushes & drop link 24 Aug 2014 (Forum)
Manual is to remove the hub carrier from the strut completely and to replace the ball joint at the bench. This requires the hub carrier to be detached from the drive shaft and the brake assembly. The alternative method below leaves the hub carrier attached to the strut -
Land Rover Experience in Scotland 18 Aug 2004 (Forum)
of the hill and take the vehicle over the edge, but the secret here is to let the vehicle do the work. With the engine on tickover I just kept my foot off the accelerator and brake (and clutch!) and simply steered. WOW!!!! After getting used to the vehicle on these slopes we then went to the small dips etc -
Suzuki Swace - Some views as requested by GB 23 Jul 2024 (Forum)
to marks and scratches, especially at the rear hatch and bumper (dogs again!). Noticable as I wash it now and again, is the fact that the alloys never seem to have any brake dust on them and the alloys are still in excellent condition. This has not always been my experience on Japanese -
Dangerous driving dispute? 21 Oct 2023 (Forum)
in the dark, pouring rain, banging on my car, one minute on my left, then my right, then in front of me slamming on his brakes, trying to ram me off the road at the next junction. I panicked and thought I could try and lose him so I came off the motorway and tried to lose him around a roundabout. I tried -

joyless to drive. I’ve now had cause to borrow it for a day while old Terrance the Toyota is in for new rear brake pipes for his Mot. The newer car is however a much better little car all round. It’s a little bigger and the interior space noticeably improved, especially the boot. It’s a very practical -

When a Yaris won't do... 16 May 2018 (Forum)
steered her towards it in the first place because it's "a Japanese petrol manual" and that seems to have been a good move, because apart from normal servicing, brakes and tyres it's never need any work other than replacing the driver's door mirror on more than a couple of occasions due to her driving -

was vastly different to the recorded mileage. A box had been ticked that the automatic tyre pressure monitor had been reset, it doesnt have one. The hand brake was stated to have been adjusted, it now remains on after releasing and breaks free with a noticeable thud and jerk. I was coaxed
