  • Will there ever be the perfect car? 30 Apr 2009 (Forum)
that cars can still have recalls with tiny switches or engine sensors, brake components and other seemingly simple parts. If car makers had only invented the car a week ago I could understand teething problems but after more than 100 years of car making you'd think engineers would have found the way
  • Ford Fiesta (2002 - 2008) - Road test - 1.25 Style 11 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Had one as a loan car today and onto tomorrow. I know its just been replaced but its the first time ive drive one! Good points: Spacious up front, handles nicely, reasonable interior quality, boot is wide, noise suppression is good, brilliant gearbox, steering and brakes very nice. Bad points
  • Honda Jazz/Fit (2001 - 2008) - random tyre pressures 2 Nov 2008 (Forum)
and brakes felt so odd I returned home. On checking, both off side tyres were down 3 lbs more than the n/s pair. The latest check revealed the o/s front and n/s rear to be down while the others were fine. The Jazz is sensitive to pressure loss and I am usually aware of the need to check. I am at a loss [pun
  • Honda Shuttle/Odyssey (1995 - 2000) - 1999 2.3 Holds 2nd gear in kick-down 25 Aug 2008 (Forum)
think so though. Car is going to my local indy at the end of the week for a full service. Will ask hime to change all fluids incl. auto oil, brake fluid coolant etc. Don't mind spending quite a bit on this as I bought it cheap and love it.
  • Tyre fitters - praise and grumbles 17 Jul 2008 (Forum)
. He is gone for 1 minute, when he is chatting to a guy doing brakes on a car. Comes back and says "IF you give us a ring tomorrow, may be able to look at it then". I give up and after driving around find another national chain, 10 mins before closing. Guy behind desk is doing paperwork. Mention
  • Mazda 626 (1987 - 1991) - Why is my fuel consumption so good? 6 Jun 2008 (Forum)
do a limited amount of urban driving, and I am sure my reading of the road ahead, with subsequent lack of heavy braking helps, but I still manage to average 37mpg week in, week out, even with climate control permanently switched on and a fully loaded 6 disc CD player playing loudly. Is there anyone

stating that the following checks had been carried out with the 'wheels off', if the wheels had come off wouldn't I have finger prints in the brake dust? Does anyone have any advice on how I can prove my car has not been serviced because I am pretty sure it hasn't but don't know how to prove it.
  • Can't get the basics right 27 Jul 2007 (Forum)
hard to get it to even the first 'click' and the back brakes were quite hot. Obviously someone had wound up the adjuster until there was no slack in the cable! The spec. on these is wheel lock at 4-9 clicks. Couple of minutes with my 10mm ratcheting ring and we were back to 5-clicks and everything
  • Trade in Golf for a Jazz? 15 Jul 2007 (Forum)
), new brake pads and it's still got some minor stuff that needs sorting - slight play in MacPherson struts, new clutch master cylinder required. I'm basically waiting for the next breakdown. I bought it for £5500 in Jan 06 and it's probably worth £3500 to £4000 now. Typical driving is 16 miles a day
  • VW Golf - tankslapper/steering shimmy 9 Jul 2007 (Forum)
My girlfriend's 1988 Golf GTI 8valve has a tendency to develop what I would describe in motorcycling parlance as a 'tankslapper' when you hit the right (or wrong) bump whereby a fairly impressive steering shimmy sets up necessitating either braking or accelerating to make the wobbling stop
  • Speeding - mixed messages 8 Jul 2007 (Forum)
of 50mph have been witnessed in Canterbury centre this afternoon with total disregard to the two second rule and braking distances have gone out of the window. There was a pile up in a Kent lane less than 20 miles from Canterbury centre. Will the police study video evidence and prosecute the guilty party

like a brake cylinder) saying Anti Pollution system has failed, which I take as a consequence of this filter not doing it's job. Manual say take it out for a run. Done this-still on. Took battery off for an hour. Still on! So dearest experts, what do I do? I have googled this, not getting too much
  • Does 'refurbishing' a car make sense? 31 May 2007 (Forum)
the engine and/or gearbox will start 'complaining'. The car suits my needs very well, so would it make sense - financial or otherwise - to completely 'refurbish' it. By this I mean replacing or completely overhauling all moving parts: engine, autobox, driveshafts, wheel bearings, brake assemblies etc
  • Award winners 14 May 2007 (Forum)
to brake pedal - by my reckoning that is 3 - 3.5 hours just for welding). Then becuase they had changed the oil (to get through MOT) owner wanted to charge us extra £100 for a service (Oil, filter and labour already charged), despite the fact we said e did not want one. The car was returned with the oil
  • Argh! Accords and motorbikes... 5 Apr 2007 (Forum)
couldn't do any braking while he was there so decided to increase the gap between me and the car in front so I can slow gently if there's a problem. Tapped the decelerate button on the cruise control and the automatic gearbox drops into 3rd gear with a jerk as the car slows and climbs an incline
