  that cars can still have recalls with tiny switches or engine sensors, brake components and other seemingly simple parts. If car makers had only invented the car a week ago I could understand teething problems but after more than 100 years of car making you'd think engineers would have found the way

  think so though. Car is going to my local indy at the end of the week for a full service. Will ask hime to change all fluids incl. auto oil, brake fluid coolant etc. Don't mind spending quite a bit on this as I bought it cheap and love it.

  do a limited amount of urban driving, and I am sure my reading of the road ahead, with subsequent lack of heavy braking helps, but I still manage to average 37mpg week in, week out, even with climate control permanently switched on and a fully loaded 6 disc CD player playing loudly.   the first 3months of warranty i had to take the car back because of the TC and HDC light kept going on when i braked, i was advised it was a loose connection,,,,, any ideas would be appreciated, so what you all think do i have a leg to stand on here??

  stating that the following checks had been carried out with the 'wheels off', if the wheels had come off wouldn't I have finger prints in the brake dust? Does anyone have any advice on how I can prove my car has not been serviced because I am pretty sure it hasn't but don't know how to prove it.

  hard to get it to even the first 'click' and the back brakes were quite hot. Obviously someone had wound up the adjuster until there was no slack in the cable! The spec. on these is wheel lock at 4-9 clicks. Couple of minutes with my 10mm ratcheting ring and we were back to 5-clicks and everything

  My girlfriend's 1988 Golf GTI 8valve has a tendency to develop what I would describe in motorcycling parlance as a 'tankslapper' when you hit the right (or wrong) bump whereby a fairly impressive steering shimmy sets up necessitating either braking or accelerating to make the wobbling stop

  the engine and/or gearbox will start 'complaining'. The car suits my needs very well, so would it make sense - financial or otherwise - to completely 'refurbish' it. By this I mean replacing or completely overhauling all moving parts: engine, autobox, driveshafts, wheel bearings, brake assemblies etc
