  • sluggish saxo 1.1 31 Jan 2005 (Forum)
I've just bought a 2 yr old 1.1 mpi saxo with 27K on the clock and FSH. I am only getting 41 mpg compared with 48mpg from my previous Peugeot 106 with similar miles and same engine, the Peugeot also had more zest, as has my mothers saxo. My driving style is the same and the brakes are not dragging
  • Keep it or change it??? 29 Jan 2005 (Forum)
at least 2 x tyres and a service.I would also guess the brakes aren't too far away from needing done.I have heard of various horror stories about catalytic converters going and a variety of "common" faults on VW's that I have not yet experienced.I quite fancy the new Vectra and in particular the 2.2 SRi
  • Mondeo Estate - thumping and squealing 30 Nov 2004 (Forum)
or the other that sounds 'mechanical' - like brakes binding or something. It seems to do this more so when under load, or strangly enough, when the weather is cold. The rear tyres are still the original, so are now 4 years old, but are in good condition. The car has only done 53,000 miles and is a 2000 model
  • new honda civic 30 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Everyone raves about Honda reliabilty and "hondas do not rattle". I bought new 3 door 1.6 sport December 23 2003,nothing but problems from day 1. Screeching Brakes, creaking underneath which after many visits to the delaer resulted in new suspension struts on a car of 1500 miles! New windscreen seal
  • A/T tyres 24 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Morning, I have a RAV 4 which surprise surprise does leave the tarmac for use on country tracks near home. The current tyres are Bridgestone Dueler H/T 235/60/R16 100H, these do not grip well on these tracks (gravel, grass, wet etc)and slide even under braking at low speed (13k miles on the clock
  • Parting is such sweet sorrow 12 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Yes, the '69 Bullitt Mustang 351. We did the front brake disc conversion, sorted out the trans with expensive bits FedExe'd from Oklahoma, rebuilt the Holley 4bbl carb (check the HJ pix site for pix) but the electrics remain a mystery to even the most inventive of Filipino mechanics. I will flog
  • Prepare for bright nights 29 Jul 2004 (Forum)
red haze, imprinted on my retinae. As usual the worst culprits were those with only one functioning brake light, leaving you guessing as to whether they were slowing or going. Bless 'em. So just to warn you all that for the next 2 weeks or so you can expect these same people to have forgotten
  • Polo 1.6CL(100BHP) Drinking Problem 25 Jul 2004 (Forum)
that it was going down a lot quicker than before. I used to get about 360miles from a full tank. This time, I've only got about 280miles!! I am going to give it a few more full tanks just to make sure, but is there anything else that i could be looking at in the mean time? (I've checked the brakes etc
  • Temperature Gauge MAX Fiesta 1.3 23 Jul 2004 (Forum)
I have a Fiesta 1.3 LX 1996 Endura-E engine which has developed a problem in the Temperature Gauge giving a constant Maximum reading. It doesn\'t give a max reading when the ignition is on(ie. oil, brake, and battery light illuminated) only when the engine has started and within 2 seconds needles

drive through there twice a day and have done for the last 6 months. 4) You do not get extra credit if when seeing a camera in a 60 limit you instantly brake and go past it at 30.
  • passat tdi stop sign illuminating 16 Mar 2004 (Forum)
not stay on long enough to show the fault (oil presure, coolant level, brake fluid etc). Put the car into VW to have it plugged into the vag com no faults recorded. Incidently the car has covered 58,000 miles from new full vw service and extra oil change between services. Anybody any thoughts on this problem
  • Extended service intervals, gone daft? 13 Mar 2004 (Forum)
for the Sprinter! My question is:- do M-B know something, or use something, different to the rest of us, or, are they about to lose their reputation for vehicles that go on forever? Personally I would have thought that whatever oils, fluids and brake linings are being used 30,000 miles must be pushing it somewhat

brake or go down a hill it rolls forward, the opposite if you go up a hill.It isn't a "short" roll either. It is about 2 secs.Anyone got any ideas?. I actually thought I'd cracked it before.I found a ball-bearing (???) in the footwell at the rear in the heater vents under the driver's seat
  • Honda Civic Type R 16 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Had a test drive yesterday. Fine machine: very capable chassis, meaty steering (maybe a little lacking in feel), great brakes, great seats, rock-solid build. Engine (surprisingly, to me, though I'm a VTEC virgin) flexible. Gorgeous looks, of course. The only negative was what I took to be road

and management light stays off. It all points to a glowplug (pig to get to the connectors to test) but it starts from freezing cold on the button (brake light bulbs are both fine they are linked with low resistance circuit with glowplugs). Trawled through the forums but this engine seems to be a bit scarce here

it in, or they're on company cars - ditto. Why on earth would they bother treating the car with kid gloves , changing oil, coolant, brake fluid etc. Of course this may well be done for them under warranty etc. So, how long do you keep yours ? And do you look after it to prolong its life for you, or for someone
