Volvo V60 (2010 - 2018)
D2 Business Edition 115 Start/Stop 5dr Estate
Better than the German rivals
Very well built - solid, quiet and economical. We get 55 mpg from the 1.6 litre diesel lump on average, in general driving conditions.
Road testers seem to go on about the boot not being as expansive as its rivals. Well, guess what - I saw the boot before I bought it and it's fine for me. It's far larger than Porsche 911s, McLarens and even Aston Martins. Really, if anybody buys a car and then complains about the boot size they don't deserve any sympathy.
The dashboard is very plain. By that I mean it's a good thing. it's unfussy and classy with no Honda Civic-type distractions.
We went for the Business Edition model as it had sat nav built in. The SE version does have electric leather seats which is nice, but I know leather seats go saggy in time. Also as I keep cars for 5-10 years I know there's no electrics in the seats to fail.
My only gripes are:
1) You need to press the key fob or dashboard button to open the boot, even when you're getting out of the car.
2) The electric handbrake takes some getting used to (but that's probably midgets being a slow learner.
So all in all, it's a lovely high quality car that can hold its head high among the German marques. Really, the V60 is in no way second fiddle to a C class, 3-series, A4 or Passat.
