Volkswagen Passat (2005 - 2011)
2.0 sel tdi estate
Not fit for purpose
We spent £6,000 on this vehicle in January 2014. We have since spent £3,722 in repairs! The more expensive being the inlet manifold, turbo system, brake system, number 3 injector. VW said the car was recalled in 2011 and had all four injectors replaced, yet we have had to replace one 3 and a half years later. Various oil and fuel leaks have prevented the car from functioning, as well as the above listed. Each time there has been a major engine fault, the vehicle comes to an abrupt stop, locks the steering column, and doesn't start again. VW call this a safety feature. I call it dangerous. For example, if this happened on a motorway, travelling at 70mph, engine warning, car goes from 70mph to 0 in a matter of seconds, and your steering wheel locks, the vehicle shuts down and no power. Meanwhile the truck that was a few seconds behind you has just entered your car through the boot. Safety feature? I don't think so! I shall not be purchasing another VW anytime soon...
