Volkswagen Golf GTI (2013 - 2020)
2.0 Gti pp dsg 5door
As good as the car reviewers say
Last time I owned a Gti was in the 1980's when I owned two Mk2 gti's one after the other over seen years. Both 100% reliable ,great fun and a joy to own. Then came my company car period owning 3 series BMW , mercs, Audi ,Saab and so on. Now I have taken retirement I have gone back to owning a car again . I wanted something reliable, well made and fun to drive. Looked all round and ended my search owning another Gti ! I do not regret it and have covered just under ten thousand trouble free miles. I had a dsg gearbox in my last Audi A6 and was not that impressed after the lovely gearboxes in previous Mercedes .So having one in the Golf meant a long test drive before I purchased . It has been very much improved and is both smooth and quick to change gear. So I have no worries on that front.
The car handles superbly and is a total joy to take down county roads quickly . Motorways are no problem either and the car cruises beautifully at 70ish . The ride is supple and just on the right side of firm. I prefer my cars that way.The steering is also really good .
Fuel consumption is averaging 35 to 40 mpg .If you give it the beans then expect to see30ish. But you will likely lose your license at those speeds .Oh and the grandchildren love it especially the exhaust sounds ! All round a superb car .
