Volkswagen Golf (2020 on)
8 1.5 eTSI 150 7speed Style DSG 5dr
Growing on me
This is my 4 th golf previously mk 6 and the mk 7 match dsg was excellent and more comfortable with all the extras and cd player, spare wheel . The mk 8 doesn’t have a cd player, or spare wheel and has old fashioned bonnet prop.
The dash is better but the climate control is via the screen which is distracting to use when driving. The rear light switch and defrost is better set up.The lane control is appalling and scary at first. Fortunately on the style is can be easily switch off via a button on the left hand indicator arm. Not so on the life model.
My favourite new addition is the undertaking and overtaking warning lights on the door mirrors. At first I thought the mpg the same as the mk 7 but on a long motorway journey it delivers approx 60 mpg astonishing to find the after 95 miles I had more range than when when I started out. The 150 horsepower is great, but I didn’t realise it had paddle change as well and these can accidentally be activated. Annoyingly the voice control is only free for the first month then £250 per annum. I haven’t used it.
The sat nav is complex and on occasion has altered itself . The voice control warns of traffic ahead even when navigation is off. This is helpful as I often switch on the navigation when I get a warning to see which roads are blocked and get around it.
Had chip malfunction requiring new steering wheel to fix.
Would I buy another? Not sure. Maybe a Skoda electric next.
