Vauxhall Astra (2009 - 2015)
Elite 2.0 CDTi 16v ecoFLEX Start/Stop 5dr Hatchback
Brilliant car with lightyears of power!
This is my mum's car. We bought this back in September 2013 after having a nice but slow Vauxhall Corsa 1.4. It's a wonderful car! It's best credit is by far the 2.0turbocharged 165BHP engine! It is a rocket! You can even leave the likes of BMW and Audi in the rear-view-mirror. Because mum only does very short journey's, MPG stands at around 45MPG but that's not too bad. I'm sure it will be much higher for the likes of motorway drivers!
However, the only downsides to the way it drives are that the 'elite' suspension is very soft; a little bit too roly-poly, but it irons-out rough roads well and if you want tough suspension, the SRI model is always available.
Practicality is very good, comfortably sit five adults and the boot is nice and big. There's plenty of storage space too. Rear-head/leg room is great and it's a nice place to be. The interior is upmarket with shiny plastic inserts, chrome handles, chrome surrounds and soft-touch plastics. Controls are all logically laid out and all the systems are well thought through. It's also quite refined making it a quiet ride!
Can’t fault the reliability, had no issues with it what so ever! Tax, insurance and running costs are also low so it's nice and cheap to run. The features are also brilliant, bring the elite model it is packed with standard equipment: Automatic lighting, rain-sensor windscreen wipers, aux-in socket, front+rear power outputs, steering wheel audio controls, front fogs, heated front seats, four electric windows, dual-zone climate control, electrically fold-able door-mirrors, traction control, extendible front seats and much more! It is loaded with kit!
Issues: Biggest one is the inept electronic parking brake, it's ridiculous; it sticks, it's slow and the rear of the car lifts up because it takes too long to release. One reversing light is simply not enough, on a dark driveway like ours you can't see a thing! Glove-box is a little on the small side because they left the fuse box on the passenger side! The wipers smear making it harder too see and the square-shaped headlights don't light up the road that well. It's a very heavy car!
So a brilliant car with some faults. You can get it with a proper handbrake; just a shame this didn't have one! Good car though. Highly recommend it!
