Vauxhall Astra (2009 - 2015)
SRi 1.7 CDTi 16v (110ps) ecoFLEX 5dr Hatchback
Lots of kit....poor build, naff dealer service
I've had this car for 12 months and covered just under 24k miles. Firstly, its crammed full of kit and its a very smooth and comfortable cruiser. It looks good especially as I'd specified the 18inch wheels on it. It looks classy with the chrome trim and after driving a huge mondeo for 3 years previously the size was welcoming.
However, the car has been blighted by poor build and niggly mechanical issues. There is a horrendous rattle from the dash behind the passenger airbag which only happens at and above 70mph. The tyres on 18inch rims are like gold dust - not quite sure why, its only an Astra. It took me 3 days and £200 to get a replacement for a puncture. The engine sounds very ropey after say a 300 mile trip and the handling is very wooly to say the least. There is an awful turbo related whine when the car de-accelerates and the clutch pedal does not return to its original position, I have to put my foot behind the pedal and pull it up most mornings!
My local dealer is awful. I dropped the car in for them to check the above rattle and whine and a supposed recall (only highlighted to me when I dropped the car in, I wasnt informed of a recall). I left the car with them for a whole day, and on picking it up, noticed that the car hadnt even moved and the mileage not changed. They then told me that it had been out on a road test and no faults found....blatant lie!
Oh, fuel economy is poor...I do a mix of urban and motorway travelling, and the best I have is 48mpg...way short of its claimed 62mpg!!
