SsangYong Tivoli (2015 - 2024)
1.6 SE 5dr Hatchback
Different from the norm but perfectably capable - and excellent value for money
I wanted a used crossover for £9,000, so I was looking at the Juke, Sportage and ix35. But after test-driving a Tivoli and realising how much more for my money I'd get, it was the clear choice. For my budget, I managed to get a late 2015 car (with a lot of haggling...) with 3.5 years warranty remaining - a lot newer than I would've got if my money went on an equivalent rival.
It won't win any drag races, and the petrol engine is a bit gruff, but it handles well, looks great (even in base SE trim) and is well made. The seats are comfortable and the car is very well-equipped (again, even in base SE trim). It's main rival at price point is the Dacia Duster, which was too utilitarian for me. The Tivoli still has "budget" elements to it but these just contribute to it's honest charm in my opinion. It's likeable.
I like the fact that you don't see many around - people second-glance at the car. I've had so many comments from family and friends who have never seen one before - most of whom are surprised it is in fact a "budget" option.
There are more refined, more luxurious cars on sale. But in terms of a value-for-money, high quality and exclusive used crossover, you don't need to look any further - if you can find one...
