Skoda Octavia (2020 on)
Sel 2.0 tdi 115ps
Lovely to drive, economical but worried about electronic gadgetry
Bought this car on basis of needing a reliable economical vehicle which had a great boot.for doing lots of miles. It was a second hand car with just over 6000 miles and one owner who apparently had bought another one just a different colour.
Had a test drive twice and everything seemed in order.accept for a double clicking noise occasionally from the dash. Mentioned to salesman before picking up but still there within 300m of the dealership. Had thought I was buying a 150ps as did the salesman but turned out was the 115ps. Although this is not such an issue as drive daughters vw 150ps and don’t notice a huge difference until 60+ miles per hour. Nevertheless had signed some paperwork and not offered a “sorry maybe you would not want to proceed with the purchase” when arranging insurance the premium almost doubled from £365 for my Hyundai I40 tourer to a staggering £687.
Drove the car then for 100 miles and oil light came on. Contacted salesman who replied immediately. Appeared to be over full with oil and nothing to worry about and drop it in. Did this yesterday and oil level ok but sensor requires replacing and very helpful service guy said double click was a software issue. I would have thought the car should have had any software updates before delivery to me. So booked in for sensor replacement and 2 hour software update. Therefore a bit wary now of the electronics on the car. Driving wise comfortable and frugal 60 miles per gallon and although second hand is in mint condition. The infotainment system will take some getting use to and is really too much with having to go through menus etc Basically distracting and can take a couple of minutes to load up. Lots of legroom and boot space plus equipment levels are generous. I know someone who has the older version Mark 3 and it appears unbustable not so sure about the longevity of all these sensors/electronics so at this stage could not recommend to a friend. Owned a Skoda fabia diesil many years ago fantastic car never a bit of bother but it was simple. My review below reflects 72 hours of ownership.
