The best supermini I've owned

In 50 plus years of motoring I've owned 23 cars plus a number of motorbikes. I can honestly say that this Fabia has given me the most enjoyment of any of them.

I know the DSG gearbox has come in for some criticism but as far as I'm concerned it beats a manual gearbox any time. The engine is eager and free revving in "Sport" mode and surprisingly thirsty too!. In "Drive" however and driven sensibly it gives 48 - 50mpg. on a run on A roads, easily coping with hills and well able to keep up with the traffic. Most of our mileage is local and fuel consumption is not brilliant at around 40 mpg.

The boot is, I believe, a bit bigger than the average supermini, quite big enough for the weekly shop, and taxi-ing grandchildren around with their belongings. With the rear seats down it copes well with loads of logs etc. plus assorted tools.
For the first time ever I'm thinking seriously of replacing our car with another of the same make and model
