MINI Hatch 5-door (2014 on)
2.0 Cooper S 5dr
Lovely practical hot hatch
We purchased this car when it was 20 months old at £12,995, with 12,000 miles. Amazingly, after 3 years of use, with mileage at just over 30,000 miles, it is still valued at over that figure. We love this car; the way it drives, with 'go-cart' like steering, and the induction noise if you accelerate hard is wonderful. We have had no issues with the car at all; reliability has been 100% with no costs outside servicing and tyres. The car was bought for my wife and she was overwhelmed by the carbon fibre effect trims, the Sat Nav screen that can be expanded with fingers, like an I-Pad, and the design of the alloy wheels. This and the colour, a light metallic blue, just 'sold' it to her.
Fuel economy has been surprisingly good. Even though the car is largely used for short commuting trips of 5 miles and back each day, it still is averaging 38 mpg; very good for a 2.0 litre petrol 'hot hatch', with no 'range anxiety' issues!
Being a 5 door, the practicality is much better than the 3 door and the boot, whilst not huge, is quite deep and it does swallow 2 large suitcases with ease.
Would we recommend it; well, most certainly. It will be difficult to see how BMW can replace this car with something better, or perhaps they should take a leaf out of British Leylands book and not replace it until we all are forced to buy these silly experimental battery cars that take ages to recharge after only doing less than 200 miles!
