Mercedes-Benz GLC (2015 - 2021)
GLC220d Estate 2.1 Sport Auto 5dr SUV
An embarrassment to Mercedes Benz.
I bought my GLC from new expecting good things, as one would from a premium marque. As with the previous comments made regarding the steering issues, mine has the same issue. Taking it back to my local dealer, Lookers MB Ashford Kent, the response I received from the manager was 'don't apply full lock'. I was astounded by this comment but it was the line told to be given to MB customers by MB UK. After several complaint letters to MB customer services and receiving the same quote and 'contact the ombudsman if you wish', they eventually relented to fit new tyres in March this year. Customer services said that they will send 'winter' tyres to Lookers to be fitted but on inspection, they were all season.7 months on and winter approaching, covering just 7000 miles, the vehicle is doing it's characteristic juddering with full lock. I have several 180 degree bends in the work car park that I cannot make as with full steering lock, the car skips forward. In one case, almost wiping out a pedestrian. I called customer services today and re highlighted the issue. All I was told was to see my local dealer but having seen them recently, they are still supplying the same line about the steering lock, so is a waste of time. Then I was again referred to the ombudsman. Now my car is also on the drive for the winter as it is NOT safe to drive. I am in the aviation industry and am constantly evaluating the safe operation of the aircraft I fly and in my opinion, this is not a safe vehicle to drive in its current state.
Mercedes, shame on you for your customer service. Having again spoken to another branch service manager regarding the problem, they admitted that its easier for them to just keep their heads down and not admit the problem until a series of accidents involving the vehicle will highlight the design issue in the media.
Other issues with Mercedes, I've had 3 MB over the previous 3 years and need to replace the windscreens annually. Speaking to the fitters, Autoglas have replaced 410 GLC screens in the last 6 months. They are one of the thinnest on the market to save weight etc, and as such, don't fare as well with stones.
My advice,DON'T BUY A MERCEDES buy a BMW. Unfortuanately, I'm tied with the PCP for a little while longer but my wife's car is to be replaced next year and that is the way we're going.
Hope this review helps
