Mercedes-Benz B-Class (2012 - 2018)
B180 1.6ltr petrol blue efficiency
Comfortable quality with enough grunt and performance and quiet
I looked at many cars to replace a Golf Plus wishing to improve on refinement. I found it in the Mercedes 180 1.6 litre turbo petrol ex demo 3 months old. Performance is more than adequate for my needs and I can generally leave cars behind when accelerating from stop. It returns an average 38 mpg overall mainly on short journeys of less than 20 miles, on a long run 44.5 is the norm. Handling is good without being brilliant. Comfort is great one of the few cars I can do a long journey in without getting uncomfortable (I have back problems). On most road surfaces the noise is lower than previously experienced and on smooth surfaces almost non-existent. I am almost 72 years old and find most road test seem to cater for the younger generation which can give a wrong interpretation of a car for the more mature motorist.
If you want a car that is quiet, smooth, comfortable, economical, non diesel(yuk) and with good performance off the race track then but one of these without all the gismos for about £20,000. Plenty of opportunity to add all the extras that seem to be 'essential' at high prices.
