Mazda MX-5 (2015 on)
Sports Venture Ltd Edition
Oh memories of my Inca Yellow Triumph Spitfire
Its been nearly thirty six years, since i was driving around in my 1980s W reg, Triumph Spitfire, with its questionable reliability, but my latest purchase, a brand new Ltd Edition of 160 models, Sports Venture, has brought those memories flooding back.
I can remember my Spitfire was more accommodating for larger passengers, but i had taken a test drive of an MX5 six years ago, loved it to bits, but somehow purchased an Audi A1 instead, i was not quite ready for gale force winds in your hair, but times change.
My car is simply too new, to comment on its reliability, but that gear change is sublime, and ive already achieved a quoted 60mpg on a tight new engine, that only has a registered 529 miles on the odometer, so long term economy looks very promising.
Either its my age, and unblemished driving record, insuring the car only cost me £116 a year, full comp, which makes paying the £155 a year annual tax, a bit of an annoyance.
The car has just enough performance, to make driving it more than an occasion, and im not one of those cosseted convertible owners, who only puts the roof down in the summer.
As long as its not raining, the top comes down, and the cars heater is so powerful and efficient, that you stay perfectly warm even in very cold temperatures.
You can clearly see why, Mazda have sold over a million of these wonderful cars, incredible driving pleasure, legendary Japanese reliability, and such an involving driving experience, you wonder why people are buying an electric vehicle.
If i close my eyes, i can almost feel i am still in my Spitfire, sitting so low to the ground, and having to re learn, the way one gets out of the car.
The first three weeks, my chest muscles ached, as i was not used to turning sidewards when alighting any vehicle, certainly not a vehicle for the elderly or frail driver.
The thing i like about my particular model, is its dark Blue Metallic paint, and lite coloured leather upholstery, the contrast is beautiful, as is its cleverly designed interior, basic in functions, but the car is all about the driving experience, and more electronic gadgets are not needed.
A great driving car, ever so cheap to insure, and just proves, you do not need a high performance vehicle to get maximum driving thrills and enjoyment
