Mazda MX-5 (2005 - 2015)
1.8i Option
After a week of ordinary driving, the MX5 gives me a fresh appetite for more time behind the wheel at the weekend
The car mostly only goes out on fine days at the weekend. If I take it to work on a nice morning in the week, I tend to get in late, as I take A & B roads, and country lanes, rather than the more direct motorway. I also get home much later those days, too. I did use it as my full time car through one winter (with a clip-on hardtop, when it becomes like a Coupe and better suited to Motorway miles), and it was fine, apart from when the snow got deeper than about 4 inches.
The only negative aspect was that my franchise Mazda dealer near Worcester, who I bought the car from, never managed to sort out the various squeaks and rattles from the interior (plus one from an engine mounting or exhaust section, possibly), and indeed they were more numerous after it returned from them having it for several days just around the time the three year warranty expired. With the roof down, the noises aren't an issue. With it up, it is like living with a car full of hamsters fretting at their cages. The dealer said that with this kind of car, it is something you have to put up with. Coming from a Mazda representative, I was surprised.
