Lexus GS (2012 - 2018)
300h 2.5 F-Sport E-Cvt 4dr
Quality
Lexus build quality is great and the GS F Sport is a prime example of this.
I decided to replace my IS300 and after looking around the likes of BMW, Volvo and Audi came to the conclusion that whilst they were nice enough they were just not as well built as the Lexus. To some extent the new cars on the market do not feel as plush or robust as the materials are lighter, presumably to offset the general increase in weight of modern cars.
Only giving 4 stars as the IS300 was such a great car, yes it was not as premier as the GS but I think this was the sweet spot in the Lexus line up.
Great
Build quality and materials.
Smooth gear box - does not suffer from any hesitation at junctions and roundabouts.
Safety kit including BSM works well.
Full sized spare tyre.
LED lights.
Good
Handling is actually very good in Sport+ mode and it corners really well. The throttle response is much faster so its nice to drive on country lanes.
Average 40 MPG, 50MPG on a long run. Nowhere near as good as the IS300 but it is bigger, quieter and more comfortable.
Boot is big enough.
Meh
This has the sporty 19" wheels and over the pothole ridden roads more tyre would be nice.
Bad
Smooth gear box - its different in that if you floor the accelerator you get pretty much max revs until you reach the desired speed so there is a slight disconnect between engine effort and speed compared to normal manual/auto gearboxes. I have put this as bad as some people will not like this but for a smooth ride there is nothing like it. So if you want a fast and furious style engine note and gear change not the car for you otherwise great.
No heated steering wheel.
