Land Rover Freelander 2 (2006 - 2015)
GStd4
An excellent all rounder that drives like a car with excellent off road performance
I wanted a 4x4 that wasn't huge but had car like driving qualities for every day use with ample room for two growing teenagers in the rear. The ride and comfort do not dissapoint with superb vision adding to the comfort.
The autobox is verging on perfect and with the addition of the box changing down when slowing down this saves having to sit on the brakes constantly.
freelander 2 is a far cry from the original Freelander and possibly the only dissapointment is the name being carried across.
Fuel consumption was thirsty for the first 10,000 miles but gradually it has improved and for an auto if you drive it carefully on a long motorway run I have achived 42.2 best over 300 miles but keeping below 65mph. Reach the dreaded 70 + and it drops 33-36 but then it does have a relativley flat front.
Local it returns 26-29 and on steady normal runs 33ish.
Could do with a larger boot but its ok, interior has held together fine with no squeaks or rattles at 2.5 years old.
I would buy another one and as my wife loves it and she controls the purse strings it may happen
I look forward to the snow again this year, the terrain control is great in the snow and drives as if on tarmac! it truly came into its own in the deep snow & nothing could stop it except abandoned vehicles!
