Land Rover Freelander 2 (2006 - 2015)
2.2 SD4 GS 5dr Auto 4 X 4
Nice to drive but very unreliable and very poor dealership.
Bought this as an ex demo with 4500 miles on the clock. Within a month a rattle started on the drivers side door pillar. It took my local dealer 2 attempts to fix it even though I told them it was associated with the seat belt fastening. After 12 months I noticed the wheel arch trims were curling at their ends. The offside front trims had fallen off completely! Dealer replaced them and didn't seem at all surprised. At 2 1/2 years and 28000 miles I suddenly lost half power on a motorway whilst overtaking. LR roadside assistance replaced a choked fuel filter and suggested that the mesh was known to be too fine. Within a month at about 30000 miles the rear diff started to whine. In it went again and was told it was a computer module error. What total incompetence! After replacing the module they eventually conceded that it was a bearing issue in the diff. This is a known fault I was told with 08-10 versions. (Didn't tell me that when I bought it)! Picked the car up and 10 miles later got a computer message saying transmission fault. Back it went and a replacement computer module fitted! Drove home and after a couple of hours noticed oil on the drive under the rear bumper. Back went the car and after 2 more attempts to fix it they eventually discovered the diff had been over filled (the overflow pipe runs to the rear end). Could anything else go wrong? Of course it could. Only had the car back a week and the front passenger door latch packed up and had to be replaced. The warranty runs out next month so I have px'ed the car for a Japanese car with hopefully better reliability. Shame really as it is great to drive.
