Kia Venga (2010 - 2019)
Venga 1 Diesel
Comfortable, but problematic, MPG nowhere near 62. Wish i had bought another Peugeot 207sw HDI
I bought this from Marshalls in Ipswich. Within the first 500 miles it developed a strong diesel smell in the cab. This was worse on hot days and when sharply braking. It has been back twice and they can find nothing wrong. They said it may be protective wax burning off on the exhaust but frankly I think that was r******, I know what diesel smells like. John advised me to stick 2K or so on it and see if it improved, and now at 4.5K it the smell is less but still comes and gos especially in the hot weather. Bearing in mind their recent Picanto fuel leak recall im wondering if Vengas are subject to the same problem. I wouldnt mind so much but Deisel fumes are very dangerous, Carcenegenic like most oil distillates.
Added to this the Eco system (switches the car off when in neutral to save fuel in jams) chooses not to work sometimes, even when the engine has been running for a long time - I know it wont work straight from cold but i was in a hot london traffic jam last week and it would not work at all -Duh just when you need it! One day all the electrics on the dash just stopped no speedo lights etc. I pulled over and stopped the car and restarted and they came on, but scary if i had been doing 70 on the A14.
Accelaration is poor, you put your foot down, nothing happens and then it picks up quickly. Others on the web have complained of this and have been told by KIA that it doesnt like supermarket fuel- A Ridiculous state of affairs! Google Kia Venga problems for more details.
Having driven diesel cars for 25 years now i think that a 1.4 is too small for the size of car. A 1.6 lump would make all the difference and probably give comparable fuel economy.
In summary i changed from Peugeot to Kia this year and will be changing straight back asap.
